From the life of Jesus Christ
A baby born in Bethlehem
Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a small town in Judea, about two thousand years ago. Mary and Joseph had travelled there from Nazareth because the Roman ruler had ordered a census. The inn had no room, so Mary wrapped her newborn son in cloths and laid him in a manger, a feeding trough for animals.
That night, shepherds were watching their sheep in the fields nearby. An angel told them that a Savior had been born and that they would find him lying in a manger. They hurried into town and found the child just as the angel said. Then they told everyone what they had heard, and Mary kept all these things in her heart.
Where to read it: Luke 2:1–20. Matthew 1:18–25 tells the same story from Joseph’s side.
