From the life of Jesus Christ
Five loaves and two fish
A huge crowd followed Jesus to a hillside near the Sea of Galilee. As evening came, they had nothing to eat. Andrew found a boy who had five small barley loaves and two fish, but he asked how so little could feed so many people.
Jesus told the people to sit down on the grass. He took the loaves, gave thanks and shared them out, and he did the same with the fish. Everyone ate as much as they wanted. Then his disciples gathered the leftovers and filled twelve baskets. About five thousand men were there, besides women and children.
Where to read it: John 6:1–14. The story is also in Matthew 14:13–21, Mark 6:30–44 and Luke 9:10–17.
