From the life of Jesus Christ
Teaching from a fishing boat
One morning Jesus stood beside the Sea of Galilee while a crowd pressed in to hear God’s word. He saw two empty boats, because the fishermen were washing their nets. He stepped into Simon’s boat, asked him to push out a little from the shore, and sat down and taught the people from the boat.
When he finished, he told Simon to go out into deep water and let down the nets. Simon had worked all night and caught nothing, but he said, “Because you say so, I will.” The nets filled with fish until they began to tear. Simon Peter fell at Jesus’ knees. Jesus told him not to be afraid, because from then on he would catch people. They brought their boats to land, left everything and followed him.
Where to read it: Luke 5:1–11.
