From the life of Jesus Christ
The road to Emmaus
On the day Jesus rose from the dead, two of his followers walked from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus, about seven miles away. They were sad and talked about all that had happened. Jesus himself came up and walked with them, but they did not know him.
He explained what the Scriptures said about him, from Moses through all the Prophets. When they reached the village, they asked him to stay, because it was almost evening. At the table he took bread, gave thanks and broke it. Then their eyes were opened and they knew him, and he disappeared. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning while he talked with us on the road?” They went back to Jerusalem that same hour to tell the others.
Where to read it: Luke 24:13–35.
